How Fast They Grow!

I am in complete disbelief that it is November. Where has the time gone? August is 16 months old, the temperature is dropping (and so are the leaves), and soon the holidays will be upon us!

Our fall began with a trip to Kansas City. Eric had a Missouri Bar conference, and August and I accompanied him. We went to the Deanna Rose Farmstead, a Gymboree class, and visited our friends and family in the area.

August also received his very first haircut! We took him to the barber shop that cuts Eric's hair--it is very old-fashioned and for men only! They did a great job of trimming up his mullet.

Our little toddler has really been enjoying "school"--a preschool program at the Center for Child Studies at SEMO. It's a lab for early childhood development majors, and so August and all his buddies are doted on by his teacher and 4 student teachers every afternoon. They do an amazing job and I'm so thankful to have this resource!


In mid-October, Eric ran the Chicago Marathon! Everyone is so proud of him for finishing the race--especially with the record heat! Would you believe that our camera ran out of batteries and I couldn't capture the moment on film?! Luckily, we ordered some pictures from the professional race photographer, but I don't have any to share with you here. Just imagine Eric very exhausted and sweaty with a big smile on his face!

We also took August down to Beggs Family Farm for some fall fun! My dad met us there and took some beautiful pictures of our guys--including the pic at the top of this post. Beggs has lots of animals, corn mazes, pumpkins, and playgrounds, but August was more interested in running around and picking up leaves. Not worth the $18, but he sure did have a great time!

At the end of October, my friend Amanda and her family visited--all the way from Iowa! Amanda & Austin have a 7-month old daughter named Eloise, and we were so happy to see them! August didn't really understand why there were other people--especially a BABY--in his house and playing with his toys. Poor guy! He is usually very good about sharing! He was a very good sport most of the time, until Eloise put on her Halloween costume....a witch! She was adorable, but August was a little scared.

Isn't he the cutest giraffe you've ever seen? We had a great Halloween. We went trick-or-treating and then over to our church for their Harvest Festival (aka the let-your-kids-run-around-the-gym-to-burn-off-that-sugar event).

I am amazed every day with how much August is learning. His brain is just a little sponge! Talking is one of his big accomplishments these days, with about 25 words under his belt including "shoe," "cracker," "all done," and "thank you." He LOVES books, and can now recognize and find books. We will say "hey big guys/open your eyes/what do you say/it's a brand new day;" he then knows that we are reciting the "Hey Wake Up" book by Sandra Boynton and will go find it and bring it to us! There are about 5 books or so that he has memorized in this way. We are very impressed!!

Running and climbing is another favorite activity....and although this skill makes it very hard for him to sit still (at all), he is very proficient at it. Often this means climbing up on the coffee table or other dangerous escapades--but it helps that he understands "NO" pretty well!

Eric continues to be busy at work and I have been doing some interior design work while August is at school. I have had 2 clients so far and am really enjoying this work! Cape Girardeau was lucky enough to host Sarah Palin for a rally, and that was very exciting for our city! Although we are all upset about the election, we are very happy that it brought an end to the political ads!

Next up for the Bohl family--Thanksgiving, MU/kU football game, Big 12 Championship game (if MU is playing in it), and then Christmas of course!
